Blues carp?

I just read this interesting item in the New Scientist suggesting that carp can distinguish between baroque music and John Lee Hooker.

I wonder if they show a preference for Eddy Clearwater over Muddy Waters, and what they make of Handel's Water Music?

Makes you think, dunnit?

Ha-ha.

Noted.org.uk - at last a live music club for the Real Cranford!

Hello again.

Finally, here's something of a less "ranting" nature, you'll be glad to hear!

Last night Pete and I went down to the Legh Arms, Knutsford, to sample a new live music club that has recently been founded - thanks to the initiative of a band of very talented local musicians. ("Amateurs" in name only!)

In a packed upstairs room, we were entertained by a diverse range of acts: mostly guitars and vocals, but with some electric piano also; and excellent drum accompaniments. There was no particular theme - any musical style being welcomed - and the "stage" was available to all-comers. (I mean, blimey - I even got to perform one of my own pieces in an "open mic" slot.)

I'm delighted that this looks - and sounds - to have the makings of a highly successful venture. It's certainly something that's been sorely lacking in Knutsford for as long as I can recall (and I was practically born here).

Bravo to one and all. Pete & I can't wait for the next gig, in a month's time.

Meanwhile, if you love live music and live in our area, you might want to check out Noted.org.uk's website.

Cheers,
Mike

Why?

Simply that - WHY? What have these beautiful creatures and their relatives ever done to harm anyone? Except maybe Moby Dick - who never was, in any case. And even Jonah ultimately returned, having been spat out: apparently whales have taste even if humans don't! What a pity the countless innocent animals already (and continuing to be) despatched in the name of "research" don't have the option of coming back.

Don't just sit there ....

Stop this insane whaling NOW!

Sickening new pictures of whale-slaughter

It seems the massacre of whales in the southern seas continues unabated, despite world-wide condemnation.

MAKE THEM STOP IT ... NOW!

Shout about it.

A message to the next President of the USA ...

... whoever he or she might be.

Hello All,

For those of us who care about the future of the world but who are not eligible to vote in the election that will determine its de facto pesident, there is - thanks to Aavaz.org - an opportunity to send three clear messages on our behalf to the main contenders:
  1. Help the world stop global warming
  2. Respect universal human rights
  3. Use diplomacy to prevent war and resolve conflict
The second two issues should be of prime concern to all decent citizens of the world, and we must urge whoever takes on the mantle of President to adhere rigidly to those principles.

With regard to the first message, many climate scientists and other experts are now convinced that we are dangerously close to at least one of several critical "tipping points" beyond which catastrophic climate change would be unavoidable and irreversible.

They also tell us that it isn't too late to avert disaster. Yet. But the time for dithering and lame excuses for inaction has surely gone.

DRAMATIC CORRECTIVE MEASURES ARE NEEDED NOW!

But without the leadership of the world's most influential (for now) superpower it is virtually certain that any measures taken will fall far short of what is needed.

If you want to add your voice, please follow one of the links to Aavaz.org in this post.

Lets' try and change - no, SAVE - the world. TOGETHER.

Cheers,
Mike
